Eagles have released a statement honoring J.D. Souther, their cowriter and collaborator who died on Tuesday at the age of 78.

The Eagles have paid tribute to JD Souther, the songwriting collaborator of some of their biggest hits who passed away on 17 September at his home in New Mexico at the age of 78. He had been due to start a solo tour with Karla Bonoff on 24 September.

JD Souther, the country-rock singer-songwriter who helped write some of the Eagles’ biggest hits, has died. As The Los Angeles Times reports, an Eagles representative confirms that Souther recently passed away at his New Mexico home.

A central figure in the Southern California rock scene of the 1970s, he later had a regular role on the TV show “Nashville.”

Raised in Amarillo, Texas, Souther was a Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee most known for his work with The Eagles and Linda Ronstadt.
