Dozens of horses are safe after a fire in a barn at the Big E and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Officials said the fire was reported in the C Barn after the Big E closed on Friday. Firefighters said they arrived to the area and found a working fire in the barn around 11:45 p.

What a Big E spokesperson characterized as a “minor fire” happened at 11 p.m. inside of the C Barn, which is a large barn that includes horse stables between the Coliseum and state buildings on the Eastern States Exposition grounds. The spokesperson did not provide more details about the specific location or possible cause of the fire.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — All horses are accounted for after a fire broke out at one of the barns at The Big E late Friday night. The West Springfield Fire Department got nearly 30 emergency calls to The Big E grounds starting around 11:45 p.m. reporting the fire, less than an hour after the fairgrounds closed for the day.

Firefighters safely evacuated 161 horses from a minor barn fire on the grounds of The Big E late Friday night.

When firefighters arrived, they confirmed a working fire that necessitated the immediate evacuation of the animals housed inside.
