Tornado confirmed in Carteret County Monday evening, NWS said
National Weather Services meteorologists confirmed a tornado touched down near Cape Carteret Monday evening. The tornado was rated an EF-0 with maximum winds of 60 mph. The NWS conducted a storm survey Tuesday and discovered the damage to be consistent with a tornado.
NWS confirms EF-0 tornado in Carteret County
The EF-0 tornado touched down , with maximum estimated winds of 60 MPH. The tornado’s width was around 60 yards, with the path traveling 0.35 miles. The Cape Carteret tornado is now the 30th tornado of the year for the state of North Carolina. This brings the total close to the average number of 31 tornadoes a year for the state.
